POP EXPRESSIONISM

Following in the footsteps of Pop Art Artists, I take my inspiration from the simplistic style of comics.
I see it as an ideal medium to illustrate our social fantasies. A major theme of my work is the Judeo-Christian bipolar values of good and evil. I investigate symbols and stereotypes. Like a charade, a play on images, I put on display paintings whose association brings to light the arch messages that our society forwards to us.

Édition limitée et signée de COWGIRL STORY #1 limited and signed edition

English copy follows
• Encadrement décris ci-dessus avec vitre d’encadrement standard : 275 CAN $ taxes incluses.
• Encadrement décris ci-dessus avec vitre d’encadrement anti reflets: 425,41 CAN $ taxes incluses.
Merci. Paul.

Hi everybody, I just did a High definition scan of my painting Cowgirl Story #1. I’m going to produce a signed limited edition (25 copies) of the work on a smaller format. Each print will be printed on the German Hahnemühle 100 % cotton cloth acid free natural white paper, 308 gr/m2. The printing is done on a 12 colours printer with archival-pigmented inks for a perfect reproduction of colour. The paper size will be 26 X 26 inches, the visual 24 X 24, so there will be 1 inch white border all around. The selling price of the print is CAN $400 tax included.
For those who are interested I can take care of the print framing. I suggest a standard black frame. The frame is a black box, 2 inches thick, the front of the frame is ¾ inch wide, and there is a space between the glass and the print. The print itself is slightly lifted from the white background paper as a floating print in the frame. There is a space of one inch around the print. The final format of the framed print is a bit less than 30 inches square.
For the glass there are two options: a regular framing glass without tint that as a reflection protection of about 40 %, or a specialized anti-reflection glass that as a protection of 78 %, you nearly don’t see the glass. See the prices below, delivery in Montreal included:
• Framing as described above with a regular glass: CAN $275 tax included.
• Framing as described above with an anti-reflections glass: CAN $425,41 tax included.

Those interested can let me know by email specifying their order with or without framing and which type of glass. Thanks. Paul.

WOW !

English Copy follows ...

I discovered the work of Jim Shaw and had the luck to ear him talk about it.
Mostly invisible in Canada, well known in Europe and in Los Angeles, his work has never been the subject of a major exhibition in a museum of the East Coast or in New York City, at the exception of an installation at PS1 in 2009.  I must admit, I didn’t know him, it’s a while I left Europe. For our Pleasure New York finally celebrates him at the New Museum, but also closer to home Jim Shaw is the subject of a great exhibition at Mass Moca 4 hours from Montreal. Thursday I was there, it was a real treat. The Exhibition is on show until January 2016, go, go, go!
I have so much in common with this artist: the vision of things, the artistic process ... I am amazed. Like me he worked on superheroes, he even made a superman who falls (in this case I must say that I was the first to do so, mine is from 2012 his 2014). During his speech he also showed a slide of a large self-portrait done in 2012 with a grimace of fear. My self-portrait dates from 2009, same attitude, same close shot ... It's almost like Mr. Shaw went poking around in my head. Incredible coincidences, the parallels do not stop there, the three-dimensional elements, theatricality, religion, etc. … The light projected on his work today shines on me too. It's very encouraging.
I bring you back some pictures of North Adams, Massachusetts, if you go do not miss the installation of Anselm Kiefer.

Below a selection of the works presented at Mass Moca. See at the end a list of links to know everything about Jim Shaw.

Most of the big scale Shaw paintings are painted on old Broadway show backdrops, a good idea at first to do big scale works without the pain of rendering big backgrounds. When laziness brings originality.
